To be ready for Black Friday (November 27, 2026) you need five moves: work out your real margin before discounting, follow the prior-price rule, build a dedicated offers page, test checkout on a phone and warn whoever handles payments and shipping. Then keep watching until Cyber Monday, November 30.
Is your online store still running on June's catalog photos and a "SALE" banner made with your left hand? Breathe: you still have about a month. Here is what to do and in which order, which Italian rule to check, and the cases where Black Friday is not for you.
When is Black Friday 2026, and when should you start?
According to Bluehost and Trendtrack, Black Friday 2026 falls on Friday, November 27 and Cyber Monday on Monday, November 30. Trendtrack names November 23 to 30 as the hot week. Bluehost's guide proposes a calendar that starts in October: a dedicated offers page first, then updated titles and descriptions plus checked discounted prices and availability at the end of the month, then mobile, speed and checkout in early November. From the 27th you monitor, and in early December you clean up. Starting the week before leaves you less time to fix mistakes.
How do I set discounts without losing money?
Do the math before the discount. Trendtrack recommends calculating the real margin of every product after discounts, shipping and payment fees. Hypothetical example: a water bottle sells for 30 euros. It costs 14 euros wholesale, 5 for shipping and packaging and 1 in fees. With 30% off you collect 21 euros, spend 20 and keep 1 euro. With 40% off you lose money. At that point Black Friday is a charity event funded by your stock.
Trendtrack suggests product bundles and cart thresholds (spend more, save more) instead of the same discount for everyone. Trengo proposes a VIP list with early access to offers and goals beyond revenue: average order value, new customers and conversion rate, meaning the share of visitors who buy.
What does the prior-price rule say?
Some Black Friday guides skip this point. In Italy, since July 1, 2023, anyone advertising a price reduction to consumers must show the prior price: the lowest price applied to consumers in general in the thirty days before the discount, according to the law firm Osborne Clarke. It applies to online purchases too, notes consumer.bz.it.
Every ad must show the prior price, the current price and the percentage discount. If your discount starts on November 27, counting back the thirty-day window begins on October 28. A lower price set in between, for example with an early offer, counts. According to Osborne Clarke, breaking the rules on price reduction announcements costs from 516 to 3,098 euros. If the prior price shown is higher than the real one, it is an unfair commercial practice, with penalties of up to 10 million euros. This is not legal advice: if you have doubts about your price list, ask a professional. The rule applies if you sell to consumers in Italy.
What should the offers page look like?
Bluehost recommends a permanent page dedicated to Black Friday. Trendtrack says to send traffic to a dedicated page or collection, not the homepage. Inside, put the prior price, the current price, the percentage, the end date and availability. Bluehost adds structured data: code invisible to visitors that tells Google the price, availability and dates of the offer. In early December remove expired offers: a page with discounts that ended two weeks ago is worse than an empty page. For the basics of getting found, read SEO for Small Businesses: Where to Start.
Can your site handle the peak?
Run a real purchase from your phone, start to finish: pick a product, add it to the cart, pay with a test order. If checkout freezes at nine in the morning on the 27th, you will spend Black Friday answering emails. According to Bluehost, quoting Google, the main content of the page should appear within 2.5 seconds: your offers page must load fast even on café Wi-Fi. Three more checks:
- Tell your payment provider before the order peak (Trendtrack).
- Pause promotions on products with low stock (Trendtrack).
- Prepare ready answers for the questions that always come back, like shipping and returns (Trengo).
What do I do after November 30?
According to Bluehost, between November 27 and 30 you check traffic, conversions and errors. In early December you remove expired offers, update titles and descriptions and note what worked. Also write down the prices you applied day by day: next year you will need them for the thirty-day rule.
When is Black Friday not for you?
If you have a business website that brings quote requests and no cart to fill, Black Friday is unnecessary: a clear offer valid all year suits you better. If margins are thin and stock is small, discounting means selling your last pieces at the minimum. If you cannot ship in decent time, skip the round instead of collecting angry reviews.
